Liu Liu Sauerkraut Fish Far Eastern Sogo Kaohsiung Branch
About This Spot
Stepping into Liu Liu Sauerkraut Fish at the Far Eastern Sogo in Kaohsiung feels like entering a lively yet inviting corner of Sichuan cuisine nestled deep in the heart of the city. The subterranean setting hums with quiet energy—a mix of friendly chatter, the clatter of dishes, and the gentle steam rising from bubbling pots that invite you to slow down and savor the moment.
This is a place where the atmosphere strikes a balance between casual warmth and vibrant engagement. Tables are spacious, allowing groups to gather comfortably, while the attentive service ensures a steady rhythm that never rushes but always cares. It’s the kind of spot where locals seem at ease, sharing familiar flavors that anchor memories of home and family, yet also welcoming newcomers curious about the bold, nuanced tastes of Sichuan’s signature sauerkraut fish.
The food here speaks in textures and aromas more than just names. The tang of the sauerkraut dances subtly with fresh fish, layered gently beneath a fragrant cloak of spices that tease the palate without overwhelming it. Alongside, small dishes and appetizers bring a quiet complexity—whether it’s a tender bite of crispy shrimp roll or the comforting warmth of simmered fruit tea that washes down the meal with just the right hint of sweetness. Each element feels thoughtfully placed to build a shared experience around the table, inviting conversation and those small moments of genuine connection that food often inspires.
For those visiting Kaohsiung, especially if they carry a thread of nostalgia for Taiwanese flavors or a curiosity for Sichuan’s vibrant palette, Liu Liu serves as both a welcoming refuge and a discovery. It captures the heart of familiar dishes while respecting a pace that allows diners to linger—between bites and stories, aromas and atmosphere.

I’ve been away from home for over two years, coming here had made me realize how much I miss good Taiwanese food

People say that the Sauerkraut Fish from Diaomin is the best here in Taiwan, but now that I have tried Liu Liu I think this is even better! Together with your order you can also get some free appetizers and side dishes, tables are wide, the service is outstanding and the fish itself tastes fresh and delicious. Drinks are also very tasty (we tried the fruit tea). The temperature inside the shop was also perfect (not too hot, not too cold; when I went to Diaomin in Taipei I was literally freezing!)

The best Sauerkraut fish i’ve ever tried in my life so far. This place must visit if you come to Kaoshiung. Good service and affordable price as well.
